1973 Kawasaki Z1 - 900
First introduced in 1972, the Kawasaki Z1 900 was a game changer. The guys at Kawasaki had originally planned to move from the 2-stroke triples to a 4-stroke 4 cylinder 750cc bike but when Honda beat them to market with the CB750 they decided they had to up their game. Hence the Z1 900 with double overhead cams. This quickly became “the superbike” of it’s day. With a 903 cc, 82 HP engine capable of a top speed in the range of 130 mph it was the new king of performance.
This bike came to us as part of a collection of 10 motorcycles. The owner had a knack for collecting the fastest bikes from every era. So naturally he had to include the iconic Kawasaki Z1. Condition is excellent both cosmetically and mechanically. We have gone through this bike to bring it to road ready condition. Including cleaning and syncing the carbs, rebuilding the brakes, changing the fluids and battery.
Although this bike looks very original there are some things we need to point out for the serious collectors out there. The mufflers appear to be reproduction as well as a few other small items. These bikes are hard to come by in this condition. Their value has risen year after year for the past decade and they are among the most desirable and valuable of all the 1970s era bikes. Please stop by the shop and inspect this bike in person. You’ll be impressed.
